Rapid-DX

Our startup is pioneering a new era in rapid diagnostics by leveraging innovative detection technologies to create highly sensitive point-of-care (POC) testing solutions. The startup is led by Prof. Gheyath K. Nasrallah, an esteemed expert in microbiology and serology and a professor at Qatar University; Dr. Hadi Yassine, a renowned virologist specializing in emerging infectious diseases; and Ms. Nadin Younes, a PhD candidate in Biomedical Sciences at Qatar University, specializing in the development of diagnostic assays. Together, they bring a unique blend of academic rigor, innovative thinking, and entrepreneurial spirit to advance cutting-edge solutions in diagnostics.

NorTest, our flagship product for Norovirus detection, addresses the critical need for faster, more reliable diagnostic tests to manage foodborne outbreaks and public health challenges. Incorporating cutting-edge advancements in fluorescent detection, NorTest achieves unmatched sensitivity and specificity, with clinical validation demonstrating 96.2% sensitivity and 100% specificity. Unlike conventional rapid tests, our technology bridges the gap between speed and accuracy, empowering healthcare providers with real-time, actionable results. The test platform is portable, user-friendly, and cost-effective, making it accessible to diverse settings, from clinics to resource-limited areas.

Our technology can first be adapted to detect other pathogens, broadening its application across various infectious diseases. Additionally, it can be tailored for food and environmental testing, such as detecting pathogens in treated wastewater and food products. This versatility aligns with global health priorities and sustainability goals, enabling us to expand our portfolio to address a wide range of diagnostic needs.

We are proud to be the first startup in Qatar dedicated to developing locally made rapid diagnostic tests. By focusing on innovation and precision, we are not just creating rapid tests; we are redefining their potential. With strong industry partnerships, we are positioned to revolutionize the field of diagnostics, beginning with NorTest and paving the way for future advancements.

Our journey has been marked by significant milestones, including:

  • National Priority Research Program (NPRP) grant from Qatar National Research Fund, totaling $509,873 USD.
  • Graduate Research Scholarship Award, supporting the project with $252,958 USD.
  • First Place in Qatar University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest (2023).

The PhD student, Ms. Nadin Younes, has been recognized with several prestigious awards:

  • Forbes Middle East 30 Under 30 (2024) in Science and Technology.
  • L’Oréal-UNESCO Regional Young Talent Award for Women in Science (2023).

This foundation of innovation, funding, and recognition positions us to transform diagnostics and address global health challenges effectively.
